THE KENT AVENUE PROJECT
429 Kent Avenue Brooklyn, NY 11249
Old Breukelen and new Brooklyn become one in Oosten, the most exciting new development to arrive on South Williamsburg’s vibrant waterfront district.South Williamsburg is one of the most culturally exciting neighborhoods in the entire city. The waterfront district, where Oosten is situated, enjoys a serene location far from the hustle and bustle of Bedford Avenue, yet is just one subway stop from Manhattan, seconds from the East River Ferry and right at the base of the Williamsburg Bridge.
In this stunning building, Dutch designer Piet Boon, one of the most influential designers to come out of the Netherlands in recent years, brings the elements that have made him an international design talent to a location reminiscent of his native Holland. With Oosten, he pays homage to his Dutch heritage with clean, streamlined elements that harken back to the history of the neighborhood in which they are situated. Consisting of 216 units and encompassing an entire block, Oosten makes a dramatic statement in South Williamsburg. The building’s façade was designed in collaboration with Think Architecture. It is articulated using local materials, as brick, steel, glass, aluminum that only improve with age and is a modern interpretation of the area’s industrial past.
As Piet Boon said “Oosten is the perfect building for today’s Williamsburg, offering the kind of curated residential experience, beautiful public spaces and unrivaled amenities that a discerning audience craves.”
Oosten’s residences are unlike anything in Williamsburg today. Thoughtfully designed by Piet Boon, every home – townhouse, duplex, floor-through-loft, 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom and penthouse – enjoys thoughtful layouts and abundant light and air. In many of the units, multiple casement windows open into the beautifully landscaped courtyard, transforming your living room into a virtual terrace.
In this exciting context, AZA INT was awarded to supply the building envelope of Oosten that has seven different unit typologies, articulated on the exterior, creating an amazing variation on the façade. The building envelopeis characterized by a curtain wall system including parallel window openings and stick system façades. The aluminum system profile used will be Wicona system. AZA INT will produce about 98.000 sqf of curtain wall units (about 1800 units) completed with all necessary fittings, 1180 parallel opening windows and 304 windows sqfand about 7.500 sqf of stick system façade.
AZA INT will complete the deliveries of by June 2015 and the installation of the materials will be in charge of Walsh Glass & Metal Company, which represents also AZA INT’s Client.
